If you’re a postgraduate student, there’s a reason your supervisor might be pressuring you to get that postgraduate degree done, besides of course wanting you to succeed at fulfilling your goal of putting MA or PhD after your name.
The University of Canterbury receives research degree completion money from the New Zealand government when thesis students finish. As of 2012, it was $22,000 for MAs and $45,000 for PhDs.
This means you have some leverage if you need support you’re not receiving, because the university has a large financial interest in having you successfully complete your postgraduate degree.
